Trauma may leave a long-lasting impact on children and their families. Untreated childhood trauma is a risk factor for variety of adult concerns. TF-CBT, Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy for Children and Adolescents, is an evidence based practice which effectively assist children and parents/guardians in coping with childhood trauma. Some of the traumatic events that TF-CBT may help with are: if the child has experienced or witnessed sexual, physical, emotional abuse, domestic violence, community violence, car accident, experience of war or any other exposure to trauma.

TF-CBT can help children and their parents/ guardians deal with the negative impact of trauma. TF-CBT teaches children and parents/guardians how thoughts, feelings and behaviors are connected and in doing this assists them in gaining new coping skills. The difficulties that are addressed in TF-CBT are problems with relationships, mood, behavior, physical concerns and cognitive difficulties.

TF-CBT works best with children age 5-18 that are experiencing behavior/emotional concerns and have experienced a traumatic event. In your first session the therapist will do some further education on TF-CBT.
