About Victoria B. Buoen, M.D
I grew up in the Minneapolis area and have lived in Minnesota most of my life, with the exception of three years spent completing my internship and psychiatric residency in New Jersey. I earned my medical degree from the University of Minnesota Medical School before going on to complete my psychiatric training at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. Afterward, I pursued a child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.

Medications are powerful tools in treating psychiatric conditions, but they also come with their own challenges. I work collaboratively with patients to determine the best course of action for them, aiming to empower them to create happier, more fulfilling lives. My goal is always to help patients find the solutions that work best for them.
Throughout my career, I’ve found that biographies of famous people can provide fascinating insights into human nature—their strengths, struggles, and complexities. In my training, I discovered Dr. Ross Greene, a child psychologist who advocates for a collaborative problem-solving approach with children. His insight that difficult behavior often stems from a lack of coping skills resonated deeply with me. His method of involving children in the problem-solving process has shaped my approach to both child and adult care.
Outside of work, I am a proud parent and grandparent. In recent years, I’ve taken up knitting, often making sweaters for the little ones, much like Anna Freud, who also knitted for her family. I find joy in walking and listening to audiobooks, which offer a relaxing escape and a chance to explore new ideas.
