16 May Dialectical Behavior Therapy Leads to Healing at Choices
Since the early 1990’s Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) has been helping people to regulate their emotions, increase healthy relationships and improve coping skills. By learning and practicing both acceptance and change, individuals are able to improve the quality of their lives. The therapists at Choices are intensively trained and able to provide adherent DBT services. The clinic is conveniently located in the Twin Cities Metro area and is one of an only a handful of places offering DBT in Minneapolis.
Show, Not Tell: The Choices Difference
Our therapists work to show members how to use the skills from DBT rather than simply tell members about them. You won’t be bombarded with a therapist simply telling you how to overcome your problems. Instead, we work with you to the best of our abilities to show you how to address behaviors and challenges. When you come to our interactive and experiential groups, you’ll be met with the support and acceptance. Members share examples of using the skills they’ve learned through DBT out in real-world scenarios.
We don’t want you to simply go through the motions at Choices. With our DBT program, we don’t want you to show up, be talked at, and leave every session with little progress made. We want you to be engaged, learn new behaviors and skills, and apply those skills in your day-to-day life as challenging events occur. Some examples of how Choices does DBT differently may include paired exercises, group activities, role-playing, creative tasks, etc. In addition, Choices has a large group room with a conference table and comfortable chairs, which helps with pain issues or anxiety about being in closed settings with other people.
Trying to start a new program can be overwhelming. Therefore Choices begins with an intake session and orientation where you will learn more about the DBT program. When you come to the intake you will find out more about DBT being a package program including both group and individual therapy.
