25 Sep About Project Semicolon
Suicide prevention, awareness and perhaps most importantly, support are vital to helping those in need. There are many great organizations dedicated to promoting this critical issue including Project Semicolon, “an organization dedicated to the prevention of suicide” who believes that their “work is based on the foundation and belief that suicide is preventable and everyone has a role to play in preventing suicide.” The organization “exists to encourage, love and inspire” which is incredibly important for those who need help.
The organization developed its name from the notion that “a semicolon is used when an author could’ve chosen to end their sentence, but chose not to. The author is you, and the sentence is your life.” Many people have tattooed the semicolon symbol to their body in support of the movement.
Their website contains many helpful resources for those who are struggling, including direction on how to get help, the ability to share or read personal stories and ways others can take action to help.
If you need support right now, call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-8255, the Trevor Project at 1-866-488-7386 or reach the Crisis Text Line by texting “START” to 741741.
